How did you get into the healthcare technology industry?
My association with the Health Technology industry began at university. Studying Biomedical Material Science provided me with the skills needed to work well in the clinical affairs field. This pathway also gave me a strong foundational understanding of a broad range of technology types used in medical devices and in vitro diagnostics.
What do you like most about working about working at SciMed?
SciMed provides a very positive and collegiate environment in which to work. The whole team is great to work with. Moreover, the organisation’s goal of establishing long-term collaborative partnerships with clients allows us to develop meaningful relationships with them and witness the positive impact of our efforts.
What's your specialist subject?
Without a shadow of doubt, I make a great spreadsheet.
What challenges do you think the healthcare technology industry face, and how would your expertise deal with that?
The Health Technology industry’s constant evolution makes it a great environment for rapid adaptation, but it can be challenging to stay informed about shifting regulatory landscapes. My work in standards development, with governmental agencies and industry bodies, helps us and our clients stay well-informed.
If you could have a scientist for dinner (past or present), who would it be and why?
I would love to talk with Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin. I first learned what x-ray crystallography could do whilst at university, and her work in this field and its application in healthcare has always been interesting to me. Not only was the impact of her work significant, but the challenges of being a Black female scientist during the mid-20th century make her an even more impressive individual.
